Phormium cookianum also called mountain flax, or wharariki in Māori is a perennial plant that is endemic to New Zealand. The greenish, yellow, or orange flowers are followed by twisted seed pods. Drooping, twisted seed pods and shiny-green, wide, weeping leaves. A large root system is good for erosion control on banks and bunds. Smaller then P. tenax. Fruit/seeds from January-March. Nectar from November-January. Evergreen. Tolerant of dry, cold, and exposure.
